“Join the revolution” (British Wind Energy Association)
As a subscriber to this newsletter, there is a good chance you are interested
in renewable energy generally, and not just its application to cruising
yachts.
UK residents may have read in the national press (and there was an item
on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme) about a conference and
exhibition held at the Building Research Establishment on 28th April.
This was dedicated to small-scale wind power, in particular its future
use in the urban environment.
Eclectic’s MD, Pete Anderson, was one of the speakers at this event,
which was filled to capacity with delegates from local authorities, government
bodies, research establishments, and power providers, as well as architects,
builders etc.
It is expected that some 3GW of electricity will come from micro wind
installations by 2020, and this represents millions of small turbines
such as the D400 mounted on houses, business premises and public buildings.
Eclectic is one of the few UK companies producing a wind turbine of suitable
characteristics and size to mount on buildings. The D400 was on show at
the exhibition, along with its urban cousin, the ‘Stealth Gen’,
which is a low-visibility version of the unit in black with translucent
blades (look out for a picture on the D400 web site in the next couple
of weeks).
The reason that the D400, or ‘Stealth Gen’, is so suitable
for rooftop mounting is the same as the reason why it is ideal for mounting
on a boat. The machine is quiet-running and vibration free, yet powerful
and efficient, even in low wind speeds. These are important when a wind
turbine is operating in close proximity to people, whether on a house
or a yacht.
You can certainly expect to see more micro-turbines around in the next
few years, and on your yacht is a good place to begin. If you are interested
in exploring the possibility of having a ‘StealthGen’ installed
on your house, contact our sales line.

DuoGen-2 |
| DuoGen-2 is now available. Place your order now for delivery
in June.
The DuoGen was designed specifically for use on cruising yachts,
so it had to be quiet and non-threatening in operation, easy to
deploy and recover, and able to produce plenty of power to run the
yacht’s systems, especially on passage.
These qualities of quietness and performance were carried into the
D400, as both machines share the same slow-speed, powerful alternator.
Here are pictures of a DuoGen-2 installed on the yacht of one of
our Norwegian customers. We hope you agree that it looks great!
