DuoGen Newsletter September 2002

Southampton Boat Show 2002
September 13th - 22nd

Many people have asked if we are going to be exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show, and unfortunately we are not this year.
However, we will be around at Southampton over the two weekends, handing out leaflets and talking with anyone who wants to discuss DuoGen.
So we may see you there!

Look out for our larger ads in September's "All at Sea" and October's "Sailing Today", available at the Show.

Mounting DuoGen

As ever, this is the big issue.
We have completed the design of a universal, adjustable mounting bracket, which is now available - see picture.
We expect this to solve most installation problems from greater transom height to walk-through sterns.
However there is such a variety of configurations in yacht stern design, as well as a range of equipment that may also be occupying that space. With this in mind, we are planning another contact exercise, asking visitors to our web site to indicate which, if any, of a range of DuoGen mounting options would best suit their yacht.
We will e-mail you when this comes on line.

  • Delicate Air Turbine Blades?????????

We have come across comments from several and varied sources about the air turbine blades on certain other wind generators.
Apart from the noise factor at high speeds, they are said to be extremely fragile. One user reports that the blade tips break off and the trailing edges chip.
Also, replacement blades are apparently sold only in balanced sets.

To use our oft repeated phrase, none of this is an issue with DuoGen.

DuoGen's blades are glass-fibre reinforced, they do not chip or break, so balance is never compromised. Although they are aerodynamically sophisticated, they are so tough that you can even stand on a blade without affecting it in any way - not that we recommend this treatment!
What's more, all our blades balance and are interchangeable.
We expect you to handle all of DuoGen's components as you manage power generation on your yacht, so we have done as much as possible to ensure that neither you nor the components come to any harm in the handling!

    DuoGen Wind Turbine

    And finally...

I have mentioned the 'green issue' before, but I make no apologies for mentioning it again, because you are users of wind power.
The occasion is the World Summit on Sustainable Development that took place last month in Johannesburg.
Individuals who use renewable energy, to move a vessel over the seas or to produce power to run electrical equipment, may not be reducing carbon emissions by much, but they are drawing attention to the accessibility and potential of renewable sources.
This has to help win some 'hearts and minds'!
